Arbitrary code execution via leaked Lua environments
Published Apr 23, 2026 · Updated Apr 23, 2026
Code injection in Luanti 5.0.0 through 5.15.1 allows attackers controlling a malicious mod to execute arbitrary code outside LuaJIT sandboxes. The sandbox shallow-copies whitelisted library tables without rebinding copied functions to secure globals, while exposed getfenv reveals their original insecure environments. Exploitation requires LuaJIT and a malicious server-side, async, mapgen, or client-side mod, after which host files are fully accessible.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
