CVE-2026-41166Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Cross-realm administrator escalation via unchecked realm selection

Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026

Improper access control in OpenRemote before 1.22.1 allows remote authenticated users to assign cross-realm Keycloak roles. UserResourceImpl.updateUserRealmRoles passes the requested realm, user ID, and roles directly to the identity provider without verifying authority over that realm. The caller needs write:admin in any realm and control of a target user in the master realm; assigning that user the admin role grants master-realm administration.
