Local privilege escalation via ptraceable setup process
Published May 9, 2026 · Updated May 9, 2026
Privilege escalation in Containers Bubblewrap 0.11.0 through 0.11.1 allows local users to invoke privileged mount operations via ptrace. In setuid mode, drop_privs marks the low-privileged setup process dumpable after dropping capabilities, so a same-user tracer can control requests sent to the privileged parent. Setuid installation is required; successful exploitation permits otherwise-forbidden overlay mounts on the Linux host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
