Process crash via empty chunk vector dereference
Published May 22, 2026 · Updated May 22, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in Struktur AG libheif 1.21.2 and earlier allow remote attackers to crash a consuming process with a malformed HEIF sequence. In SampleAuxInfoReader's constructor, zero stco and saio entries leave chunks empty while a positive saiz sample count enters the loop and dereferences chunks[0]. Processing an attacker-controlled sequence through the public file-reading API is required, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
