CVE-2026-41054

Local root escalation via unchecked command dispatch

Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026

Privilege escalation in SUSE products with affected haveged packages allows local users to execute root commands through its command socket. The socket_handler function in src/havegecmd.c sends a negative acknowledgement for a non-root peer but continues into the privileged command switch instead of returning. Any local low-privileged account can reach the abstract UNIX socket and issue commands such as MAGIC_CHROOT, redirecting the root-running daemon into an attacker-controlled directory.
