Mail interception via missing hostname verification
Published Jun 11, 2026 · Updated Jun 11, 2026
Improper certificate validation in Spring Boot Mail auto-configuration allows man-in-the-middle attackers to intercept TLS mail traffic. The auto-configuration enables SSL without setting mail..ssl.checkserveridentity, so JavaMail accepts certificates for other hosts. When SSL or an SSL bundle is configured and the identity-check property is not set explicitly, attackers can read or modify mail traffic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=3.4.0 <3.4.17
- Affected versionversion=3.5.0 <3.5.15

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
