CVE-2026-40969Network attack vector

Authentication detail disclosure via raw exception messages

Published Apr 28, 2026 · Updated Apr 28, 2026

Information disclosure in Spring gRPC 1.0.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to read authentication failure details via gRPC responses. SecurityGrpcExceptionHandler passes exception.getMessage() into Status.UNAUTHENTICATED.withDescription(), exposing raw AuthenticationException text instead of a generic error. An unauthenticated caller must reach a gRPC service protected by Spring Security; disclosure is limited to information present in the server-side exception message.
