Media protection removal via missing ownership check
Published Apr 10, 2026 · Updated Apr 10, 2026
Missing authorization in W3 Eden WordPress Download Manager 3.3.51 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to remove media protections. The makeMediaPublic() and makeMediaPrivate() functions accept any media ID after checking only edit_posts, omit an ownership check, and delete protection metadata before mediaAccessControl() enforces its administrator check. Contributor-level access is sufficient to clear passwords, access restrictions, and the private flag from another user's file, exposing it at its direct URL.
