Stored XSS via unescaped license attribution fields
Published Apr 17, 2026 · Updated Apr 17, 2026
Stored XSS in wger before 2.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in visitors' browsers through crafted ingredient data. The AbstractLicenseModel.attribution_link property interpolates license_author and related fields into raw HTML, and ingredient templates mark the result safe instead of applying Django auto-escaping. Any authenticated non-temporary account can store the payload; execution occurs when another user, including an unauthenticated visitor, opens the affected public ingredient page.
