CVE-2026-40340

Heap disclosure via undersized PTP ObjectInfo response

Published Apr 17, 2026 · Updated Apr 17, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in gPhoto libgphoto2 2.5.33 and earlier allows attackers to disclose heap memory via a crafted PTP response. ptp_unpack_OI() accepts buffers shorter than 57 bytes, then the Samsung object-size heuristic reads offsets 48 through 56 beyond the validated boundary. A malicious USB device or rogue PTP/IP endpoint can trigger the parser during file listing; GNOME may auto-mount PTP devices without interaction.
