CVE-2026-40334

Information disclosure and service interruption via unterminated filename

Published Apr 17, 2026 · Updated Apr 17, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in gPhoto libgphoto2 2.5.33 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to disclose memory via a Canon USB device. The ptp_unpack_Canon_FE function copies a 13-byte device-supplied filename with strncpy but does not force a terminating null byte, so later string operations read past the buffer. The flaw is reached when an application parses a crafted Canon folder entry from a physically connected device, exposing adjacent memory or interrupting that client.
