CVE-2026-40250

Heap corruption via DWA width multiplication overflow

Published Apr 21, 2026 · Updated Apr 21, 2026

Integer overflow in OpenEXR 3.2.0 through 3.2.7, 3.3.0 through 3.3.9, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.9 allows attackers to corrupt heap via crafted files. DwaCompressor_uncompress multiplies an untrusted 32-bit dataWindow width by the channel element size in signed 32-bit arithmetic, then advances outBufferEnd by the wrapped negative result so decoded row pointers alias earlier heap regions. Opening a crafted DWAA or DWAB file with a FLOAT channel wider than 536,870,912 pixels triggers the corruption; no code-execution outcome has been demonstrated.
