CVE-2026-40076Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via Zip Slip module upload

Published May 6, 2026 · Updated May 6, 2026

Path traversal in OpenMRS Core 2.7.8 and earlier and 2.8.0 through 2.8.5 allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files. WebModuleUtil.startModule() strips the web/module/ prefix from archive entry names and concatenates the remainder into the destination path without normalization or a directory-boundary check. Module-upload privileges are required; placing and requesting a JSP in the web application root executes attacker-controlled code, even when module.allow_web_admin blocks the legacy UI.
