Administrator-level stored XSS via unescaped API key
Published Apr 16, 2026 · Updated Apr 16, 2026
Stored XSS in OPEN-BRAIN 0.5.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to execute scripts via its API key. The plugin stores a sanitize_text_field-filtered value and prints it inside an HTML value attribute without esc_attr, allowing quote-based attribute breakout. Administrator access is required to save the payload, which executes when a user opens the affected settings page.
