Script execution via unescaped watchlist rendering
Published Apr 7, 2026 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Cross-site scripting in Wikimedia Foundation MediaWiki GlobalWatchlist Extension before 1.43 allows remote attackers to execute script. Multiple Special:GlobalWatchlist rendering paths concatenate an unescaped site URL or username and render messages or tag descriptions as raw HTML. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled watchlist content to reach one of these paths; injected script runs with the affected wiki viewer's session privileges.
