Administrator-to-system command execution via CategoryTree eval

Published Aug 3, 2026 · Updated Aug 3, 2026

Eval injection in OpenEMR 8.2.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to execute operating system commands. Tree.class.php builds PHP assignments from categories table fields, then passes the resulting string to eval() without neutralizing the id field. Exploitation requires administrator access to import SQL that changes categories.id from an integer to text and inserts a payload; a later CategoryTree instantiation runs it as the web server user.
