Authenticated command execution via unsandboxed Nashorn evaluation
Published Mar 12, 2026 · Updated Mar 12, 2026
Code injection in Frostmourne 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands through stored alarm expressions. ExpressionRule.java passes the user-controlled EXPRESSION value directly to scriptEngine.eval, where Nashorn exposes Java classes and system resources without validation or a sandbox. Administrative alarm-creation access is required, and execution occurs when the stored rule is evaluated manually or by the scheduler, granting the application process's file, command, and network privileges.
