Contributor content modification via generic capability check
Published Apr 8, 2026 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in JW Player for WordPress 2.3.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter videos on others' posts. The add/remove video AJAX callbacks check only the generic edit_posts capability instead of edit_post for the supplied post ID. A Contributor account can therefore add or remove video metadata from posts it does not own, affecting content integrity without granting broader site control.
