Local privilege escalation via out-of-bounds FD_SET write
Published Apr 30, 2026 · Updated Apr 30, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in FreeBSD libnv allows local users to corrupt stack memory through an oversized socket descriptor. The fd_wait function passes descriptors of 1024 or greater to FD_SET on a stack-allocated fd_set, causing an out-of-bounds write before select waits for socket data. Exploitation requires forcing a vulnerable libnv application to allocate or inherit a large descriptor; a setuid-root consumer permits elevation to root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
