Arbitrary file write via attachment path traversal
Published Apr 21, 2026 · Updated Apr 21, 2026
Path traversal in Project Jupyter nbconvert 6.5 through 7.17.0 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files via crafted notebooks. ExtractAttachmentsPreprocessor passes cell attachment filenames directly into filesystem output paths without sanitizing traversal sequences. Exploitation requires a user or service to process an attacker-supplied notebook with attachment extraction enabled, and writes are limited by the nbconvert process permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
