Service interruption via unvalidated Twist values
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Improper input validation in gazebo_plugins 3.9.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt Gazebo via a crafted Twist message. The /cmd_vel callback in gazebo_ros_diff_drive.cpp writes nonfinite linear and angular values directly into motion-control state, allowing propagation through wheel calculations, joint control, odometry, and /odom publication. Network access to publish on the ROS /cmd_vel topic is sufficient; the demonstrated NaN input disrupts simulator availability and corrupts motion and odometry state.
