Unauthorized file uploads via view-only authorization
Published May 7, 2026 · Updated May 7, 2026
Improper authorization in Snipe-IT before 8.4.1 allows remote authenticated users with view access to upload files to records. The UploadedFilesController store method authorizes POST requests with the view policy instead of the update policy, then persists the supplied file and an audit entry. View permission on an asset, consumable, or another supported object is sufficient; the vendor documents unauthorized file persistence but does not substantiate code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
