Application crash via EC-3 atom over-read
Published Jun 26, 2026 · Updated Jun 26, 2026
Heap-buffer over-read in axiomatic-systems Bento4 before 1.8.9 allows attackers to crash MP4-processing applications via a crafted MP4 file. AP4_StsdAtom dispatches an encrypted audio sample entry to AP4_Dec3Atom, whose parser reads one byte past a 15-byte heap buffer while decoding the EC-3 configuration. Processing or opening an attacker-supplied file is required; the demonstrated consequence is an application abort, with no supported code-execution claim.
