Authenticated code execution via traversed file rename
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Path traversal in BookCars 8.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to move server files through the /api/create-user endpoint. The userController create handler passes unvalidated contract.file and contract.language values into path.join and fs.rename, letting paths escape their designated directories. Successful exploitation requires authenticated access and same-filesystem paths; it can expose or overwrite files and execute code by replacing a dynamically imported module.
