User-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked type assignment
Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026
Improper access control in BookCars 8.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to escalate from user to administrator. The update function in userController accepts the type field from the /api/update-user request body and assigns it without a role-change authorization check. Any authenticated user account can reach the endpoint; successful exploitation grants access to administrator-only application functions.
