Code execution via application-directory DLL search
Published Jun 3, 2026 · Updated Jun 3, 2026
DLL hijacking in Wassimulator CactusViewer 2.3.0 allows local users to execute arbitrary code when another user launches the application. CactusViewer.exe searches its application directory before Windows system directories for D3DCOMPILER_47.dll and five other unprotected DLL names, then loads an attacker-supplied match. The attacker must place a crafted DLL beside the portable executable and induce its launch; the code runs with the launching user's privileges.
