Weak password hashing in GNCC GP5 7.1.76 allows attackers to recover root credentials via offline password cracking. The firmware stores the system password with the legacy MD5 crypt $1$ scheme, enabling efficient offline cracking of an extracted hash. Exploitation requires prior root-level access to extract the shadow file, so the flaw weakens credential protection rather than independently granting initial access.
