Unauthenticated file disclosure via configuration-name blacklist bypass
Published Apr 7, 2026 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Path traversal in the Emissary configuration API before 8.39.0 allows remote attackers to read files outside its configuration directory. The /api/configuration/{name} handler passes names through Configs.validate, whose denylist rejects literal separators and dots but accepts encoded or normalized equivalents before filesystem access. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful requests disclose configuration data readable by the Emissary process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
