Data corruption via quote-pair delimiter misparsing
Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026
Improper input validation in uutils coreutils cut before 0.8.0 allows local users to corrupt pipeline data via quote-pair delimiters. The get_delimiters function treats the literal two-byte string of two single quotes as empty and substitutes NUL for -d and --output-delimiter. Exploitation requires local control of cut arguments and silently changes field splitting or joining without confidentiality or availability impact.
