Process hang via catastrophic header-regex backtracking
Published Apr 6, 2026 · Updated Apr 6, 2026
Regular expression denial of service in hapi @hapi/content 6.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to hang Node.js processes. The optional trailing group in contentTypeRegex and whitespace-sensitive groups in contentDispositionRegex and contentDispositionParamRegex backtrack catastrophically over crafted delimiters. A single unauthenticated HTTP request reaches the flaw when a consuming application passes its header value to these parsers, exhausting CPU until the process becomes unresponsive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
