Authenticated code execution via extension-settings path overwrite
Published Apr 6, 2026 · Updated Apr 6, 2026
Path traversal in text-generation-webui before 4.1.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through the web interface. The extension-settings save handler trusts client-controlled folder, filename, and content fields, allowing a request to overwrite download-model.py in the application root. Access to the web UI with its high-privilege save capability is required; triggering a model download then runs the replacement file with the application's permissions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
