Audit log bypass via comment-prefixed SQL statements
Published Mar 3, 2026 · Updated Mar 3, 2026
Insufficient logging in MariaDB Server 11.8.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to omit SQL statements from audit logs. The server_audit plugin's private SQL parser misclassifies statements beginning with double-hyphen or hash comments, causing configured DCL, DDL, or DML filters to skip them. Exploitation requires the audit plugin and one of those event filters to be enabled, permitting repudiation of database actions without changing statement execution.
