XML injection via unsafe CDATA serialization
Published Apr 2, 2026 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
XML injection in xmldom 0.6.0 and earlier and @xmldom/xmldom before 0.8.12 or 0.9.0 through 0.9.8 allows remote attackers to alter XML output. XMLSerializer emits CDATASection data verbatim, so an embedded CDATA terminator closes the text section early and turns the remaining input into active markup. Exploitation requires an application to place attacker-controlled data in CDATA and serialize it for a downstream XML consumer, enabling document and business-logic manipulation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
