CVE-2026-34596Public exploit

SYSTEM code execution via addon cabinet swap

Published May 5, 2026 · Updated May 5, 2026

Local privilege escalation in Sandboxie 1.17.2 and earlier allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM during addon installation. UpdUtil verifies files.cab in the user-writable %TEMP%\sandboxie-updater directory, then install.bat extracts it and launches config.exe without revalidating the cabinet. A standard local user must win the file-replacement race while SbieSvc is running and an addon installation is initiated; successful exploitation grants full SYSTEM privileges without a UAC prompt.
