CVE-2026-34524Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated file read and deletion via avatar_url traversal

Published Apr 2, 2026 · Updated Apr 2, 2026

Path traversal in SillyTavern before 1.17.0 allows remote authenticated users to read or delete files under their user data root. The avatar_url validator rejects separators and NUL bytes but accepts '..', which path.join resolves from the chats directory to its parent. Exploitation requires a valid session and CSRF token; access remains confined to that user's data root, where secrets can be read and critical settings deleted.
