Process crash via unbounded parser recursion
Published Apr 6, 2026 · Updated Apr 6, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in nyariv SandboxJS before 0.8.36 allows remote attackers to crash Node.js processes via deeply nested expressions. The parser's restOfExp and lispify/lispifyExpr paths recurse on nested brackets without tracking or limiting depth. Exposure requires an application to pass attacker-controlled JavaScript into a public parsing API; successful input terminates the host process and interrupts its service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
