CVE-2026-33945Network attack vector

Root file overwrite via unconfined credential names

Published Mar 26, 2026 · Updated Mar 26, 2026

Path traversal in Incus before 6.23.0 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite arbitrary host files as root through credential names. In setupCredentials, filepath.Join accepted the credential suffix as a path, then os.WriteFile and os.Chown operated outside credentialsDir. Any user able to change an instance's systemd.credential.* configuration can gain host privileges or interrupt the service by corrupting root-owned files.
