Unauthorized insurance record access via missing route checks
Published Mar 25, 2026 · Updated Mar 25, 2026
Missing authorization in OpenEMR before 8.0.0.3 allows remote authenticated users to read and modify insurance-company records. Five standard REST API route handlers invoke InsuranceCompanyRestController without RestConfig::request_authorization_check(), so they accept low-privilege API tokens. A clinician account limited to patients/demo access can read insurance data and alter identifiers used by billing and claim processing.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
