Memory corruption via DFA decoder off-by-one write
Published Mar 24, 2026 · Updated Mar 24, 2026
Buffer boundary error in LinkingVision RapidVMS before PR#96 allows remote attackers to alter data or crash the service via crafted media. The decode_dds1 function in bundled 3rdparty/ffmpeg/libavcodec/dfa.c accepts a frame with only width + 3 bytes remaining, then writes through frame[width + 1], one byte past the validated boundary. Exploitation requires user interaction with attacker-supplied DFA media; the out-of-bounds write can corrupt process memory, expose or alter data, or terminate the process.
