CVE-2026-33847

Application crash via mismatched XWD pixel fields

Published Mar 24, 2026 · Updated Mar 24, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in RapidVMS before PR #96 allows remote attackers to crash the application through a crafted XWD image. In 3rdparty/ffmpeg/libavcodec/xwddec.c, xwd_decode_frame selects a grayscale pixel format from pixdepth without requiring the bits-per-pixel value to match, enabling out-of-array access. Exploitation requires a user to process the crafted image; the documented bounded consequence is an application crash, while other impact remains unspecified.
