Unauthenticated account takeover via deterministic reset tokens
Published Apr 10, 2026 · Updated Apr 10, 2026
Weak password recovery in Chamilo LMS before 1.11.38 and 2.0.0-alpha.1 through 2.0.0-RC.2 allows remote attackers to take over accounts. In main/inc/lib/login.lib.php, get_secret_word hashes only the user's email with SHA-1, and reset_password accepts that deterministic value without requiring a reset request or checking expiration. Knowing a user's email and sequential ID is sufficient to forge the reset URL, replace the password without authentication, and assume the victim's account privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
