Local command execution via backtick configuration values
Published Apr 2, 2026 · Updated Apr 2, 2026
Command injection in Glances before 4.5.3 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands through crafted configuration values. Config.get_value() extracts backtick-delimited substrings, passes them directly to system_exec(), and replaces each value with the command output. Exploitation requires influence over a loaded configuration file; commands run at startup or reload with Glances process privileges, enabling privilege escalation when it runs as a privileged service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
