CVE-2026-33590Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host takeover via permissive endpoint security defaults

Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026

Incorrect default permissions in Portainer Community Edition before 2.38.0 or LTS before 2.39.0 allow remote authenticated users to take over hosts. Endpoint creation set six EndpointSecuritySettings flags to true, permitting regular users to request bind mounts, privileged mode, host namespaces, device mappings, capabilities, and sysctls. A regular user needs endpoint access and can then read host files or execute host-root code through crafted containers.
