Out-of-root file writes via tools-root rebinding
Published Mar 29, 2026 · Updated Mar 29, 2026
Path traversal in OpenClaw before 2026.3.8 allows local users to write files outside the skills tools directory during download installation. The skills-install-download path checks a lexical tools root, then reuses that mutable path for archive download and copying instead of pinning its canonical target. Exploitation requires local filesystem access and winning a tools-root rebinding race; successful writes remain limited by the installer process permissions.
