Stored XSS via innerHTML metadata write

Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 17, 2026

Stored XSS in Stirling PDF before 2.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in a victim browser via crafted PDF metadata. In app/core/src/main/resources/templates/security/get-info-on-pdf.html, the Get Info workflow concatenates extracted Title and Author fields into a summary string and assigns it to summaryTextElement.innerHTML without sanitization. Exploitation requires a user to upload or open a malicious PDF and click Get Info, after which attacker-supplied JavaScript can read browser-session data or alter page content in that browser context.
