CVE-2026-33412Public exploit

Shell command execution via unescaped glob newline

Published Mar 24, 2026 · Updated Mar 24, 2026

Command injection in Vim before 9.2.0202 allows local users to execute shell commands through a crafted glob() pattern on Unix-like systems. mch_expand_wildcards() builds a shell command for wildcard expansion but omitted newline from SHELL_SPECIAL, leaving the separator unescaped. The path is reachable when a Vim Script plugin passes attacker-controlled text to glob(); execution uses the Vim process privileges and depends on the configured shell.
