CVE-2026-33327

Heap buffer overflow via unchecked image dimensions

Published Jul 20, 2026 · Updated Jul 20, 2026

Heap buffer overflow in libvips 8.18.0 and earlier allows local users to corrupt process memory through a crafted VIPS image. The vips_image_sanity path used unchecked image element-size, band-count, width, and height products before allocation and image-size macros consumed the result. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and dimension values that overflow the 64-bit size calculation; the resulting undersized heap buffer permits out-of-bounds writes and can crash the calling process.
