Command execution via shell-expanded parameter defaults
Published Mar 24, 2026 · Updated Mar 24, 2026
Command injection in Intake before 2.0.9 allows remote attackers to execute OS commands when a user opens a malicious catalog YAML. The catalog parameter path calls expand_defaults(), which recognizes shell(...) in an attacker-controlled default and passes its contents through shlex.split() to subprocess.check_output(). Exploitation requires a user to load the catalog and access its source entry; commands run with that user's host privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
