Heap overwrite via stale CTB metadata
Published Mar 20, 2026 · Updated Mar 20, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in libde265 before 1.0.17 allows attackers to corrupt heap memory by decoding a crafted HEVC bitstream. After an SPS size change, stale ctb_info.log2unitSize makes set_SliceHeaderIndex index beyond the allocated image metadata array. Processing attacker-supplied video is required; debug and sanitizer builds abort, while release builds silently overwrite two bytes beyond the heap allocation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
