Decoder crash via malformed PPS NAL unit
Published Mar 20, 2026 · Updated Mar 20, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Struktur AG libde265 before 1.0.17 allows remote attackers to crash decoding via a malformed H.265 PPS NAL unit. During PPS parsing, decoder_context::read_pps_NAL reaches pic_parameter_set::set_derived_values(), where malformed parameter data triggers an invalid read and SIGSEGV. Any application that passes attacker-controlled H.265 input to the library can be interrupted; the advisory demonstrates the condition with dec265 on Ubuntu.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
